Is An Acrylic Aquarium Your Best Choice?

Acrylic fish tanks are more expensive, scratch easier and can be harder to clean than glass aquariums. That’s the bad news.  So why would anyone buy an acrylic fish tank?  More importantly, is an acrylic aquarium best for you?  There are plenty of reasons retailers shelves are full of acrylic aquariums.  They have plenty of benefits.  Talk a look at the ideas below and find out what suits you best.

Funky Shapes

You can’t get a glass aquarium with round edges now can you?  Glass just isn’t as flexible as acrylic.  Acrylic aquariums can be bent up in to about every shape imaginable.  If you appreciate the design element of a fish tank you’ll probably be drawn to an acrylic tank of some shape.

Better Transparency

Acrylic aquariums are clearer than most glass aquariums.  The reason for this is that, light transmits through acrylic better than it does glass.  This of course, makes the acrylic aquarium more visually appealing.

Shock Resistant

Acrylic aquariums are more suitable in geographic areas where earthquakes are more common.  Acrylic fish tanks take shock or stress better because of the acrylics flexible properties.  This isn’t important to all, but definitely a consideration for some.

Lighter

Do you want a huge tank?  If so, an acrylic tank might be just what you need.  Acrylic aquariums are lighter than glass.  This might not mean much if you have a ten gallon tank, but if you are thinking of a huge, 120 gallon fish tank it will.  Big tank can be heavy no matter what they are made of.  Of course a full tank is always a heavy tank.  Acrylic just makes the size more manageable if you have to move it for any reason.
